English Language Lessons

According to the 2010 Census, over 550,000 Minnesotans ages five and older speak a language other than English at home.

In partnership with the Minnesota Literacy Council and other adult basic education partners, ECHO has helped to create English as a Second Language (ESL) lessons that not only support language learning, but also culture learning by integrating various health and safety topics into the curriculum.

ECHO language lessons have covered important issues such as understanding the emergency room, fire prevention, severe weather, voting/the democratic process, and domestic violence.

These language lessons are often presented in conjunction with other ECHO programming to optimize the audience receiving the information, whether in English, or in their primary language.
