With this program, we not only want to educate people, we want them to know that there is hope and there are resources available to help both themselves and their family. To do this, we brought together local doctors, cancer experts, health care organizations, and, most importantly, breast cancer survivors to talk about the illness and their experiences.

We were able to do all of this because we were awarded a $100,000 grant by Susan G. Komen for the Cure Minnesota® to increase awareness of breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment with Latino, Hmong, Somali, and low literacy individuals and families in Minnesota. The grant underwrote a portion of the cost to produce a television show, public service announcement, online resources, and an ELL curriculum.
