"Many students told me today that they watched the [Breast Cancer: Detection, Prevention, and Treatment] DVD the night before class with their families. We discussed how we are now ambassadors to our communities and need to share what we have learned. The entire class was
grateful for the information."

One of our Public Health Nurses (PHN) used the [Obesity and Your Health] DVD during a home visit. The client commented that the DVD was "very practical" and that it had "good ideas." The PHN was extremely pleased that this resource was available to share with her clients.

“Without ECHO Minnesota’s quick ability to translate and disseminate our messages on this topic, we would not have been able to share this information with those key audiences as quickly or effectively as we did."

Recently there was an ECHO program on colon cancer. Somali people do not know much about this condition. This program educated us on the importance of screening, following up with the doctors, etc.

We could save thousands of lives every year if everyone over 50 was screened. That is why it is so important that our communities learn more about colon and rectal cancer. One of our priorities is to raise awareness about cancer prevention among our new immigrant and medically underserved populations, who lack easy access to health information in their native languages. ECHO fills that void in Minnesota, and we are thrilled to partner with them in this unique venture.

“I believe that each member of our community has the moral responsibility to help those less
fortunate, in this particular case folks that do not speak the English language. There is no greater reward in life then to utilize your skills and talents on behalf of human kind.”

A nurse approached me yesterday said, “What would we do without ECHO?”. I agreed wholeheartedly – I use my ECHO tuberculosis tape with almost every LTBI (Latent Tuberculosis Infection) case opening.

We use these DVDs extensively with the Somali community in Victoria to disseminate information about mental health and also reduce stigma associated with mental health issues. The Somali community enjoyed the Egal Shidad story and thank you for it.

“ECHO played a key role in educating Minnesota’s diverse communities about the first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Ensuring that the public understood the importance of the test and did not become alarmed required a major public awareness campaign. ECHO and the Minnesota Broadcasters Association collaborated to produce a series of radio and TV Public Service Announcements (PSAs) in a variety of languages. As a result, Minnesotan’s were well informed and well prepared on test day.”
Jim D.
President and CEO of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association
Both the Vietnamese and Karen DVDs are very helpful to the communities because they can understand the health issues within their own languages.
